A management information system is system  involves people, processes and technology in an organizational setting. It is used  for decision-making  as well as  for coordination, control, analysis, and visualization of information in an organization or any business settings.

Management Information System is  designed to manage information within a company or organization which uses both software and hardware to manage information.

Examples of MIS software include Microsoft Dynamics, clarity professional MIS ,  Fleetmatics WORK and Tharstern Limited. Others which are used   for the graphics and print industry  includes DDS accura , Avanti Slingshot and EFI pace. There are four types of MIS 

• Transaction Processing System (TPS) helps to  processes the  transactions of a business such as    payroll processing, order processing,  and invoicing.
• Management Support Systems (MSS), helps to  store and organize data to  to generate reports and analyze data to address business needs and inform planning. Example A data warehouse 
• Decision Support Systems (DSS), it helps to analyze business data to assist managers with decision making. For example, for generation of  project revenue figures based on new product sales assumptions.
• Expert Systems, uses Artificial intelligence to provide managers with insights and advice to simulate the expert knowledge of a human in a particular field.
